The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has been again designated a Military Friendly® School by Victory Media, a leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds.

UW Oshkosh is among 32 schools in the state to be acknowledged for its care toward military veterans and active-duty service members.

UW Oshkosh Veterans Resource Center Director Shawn Monroe said he is proud of the national recognition. This is the fifth year UW Oshkosh has been recognized.

“These ratings show us on a national level that we’re serving our veterans appropriately. It’s something our office and campus takes incredibly seriously, and something that we’re tremendously proud of,” Monroe said.

Institutions competed for the elite Military Friendly® School title by completing a survey of more than 100 questions covering ten categories, including military support on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies. Survey responses were scored against benchmarks across these key indicators of success. Now in its seventh year, the original, premier Military Friendly® Schools designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities.

Monroe said his office is working on an initiative at UW Oshkosh to identify faculty, staff and student veterans in a visible way.

“Many veterans may feel isolated college campuses. They may not realize that at UW Oshkosh there are more than 400 other student veterans and approximately 40 staff and faculty members who have served in the military,” Monroe said.
