“Joe has been instrumental in making our Counseling Center, its programs and services, one of the most innovative, inclusive and comprehensive centers in the UW System and beyond,” Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Petra Roter said.

“His dedication to student success and to making UWO a more caring and compassionate community will be part of his legacy,” Roter said. “Joe’s good works were recognized by the Board of Regents, who awarded him an Academic Staff Award for Excellence in 2011. Joe will be missed, but there is some consolation knowing that he remains part of the UW System family, though it is on the West Coast in Eau Claire.”

Kathleen Mueske, associate director of the UW Oshkosh Counseling Center and Employee Assistance Programs director, will serve as director of the Counseling Center in the interim.

Student Affairs staff and other UW Oshkosh colleagues participated in a reception congratulating Abhold on August 28.
