Required text: Laboratory Manual in Physical Geology, 2003, Sixth Edition, Richard M. Busch, Editor, Prentice-Hall, Upper Saddle River, NJ, 288 p.
Note: Used lab manuals are NOT acceptable!
GRADES: This laboratory is important for your success in the overall course and attendance is mandatory. Your lab grade will be based on quizzes and in-lab exercises (plus extra credit, if applicable; see below). You will not receive a separate grade in lab but this will figure into your final Geology 102 course grade. The lab portion of your overall grade can be calculated as follows: 92-100=A; 87-91=AB; 82-86=B; 82-77=BC; 72-76=C; 67-71=CD; 60-66=D; <60=F.
Note: You must pass
the lab (lab grade >60%) to pass the overall course. As stated in the course
syllabus, lab will make up 30% of your final grade in the overall course.
Important: You are
expected to read the appropriate background material in each chapter of Laboratory
Manual for Physical Geology before lab.
Extra credit: Up to 5% extra credit in lab can be earned by attending the field trip OR by successfully completing four of the following problem sets from the lab manual by the dates indicated. Give these to your lab instructor by the due dates:
Problem: | Due week of: |
Lab 3 Part 3C, #16 | September 30 |
Lab 5 part 5C, #10 12 | October 7 |
Lab 6 Part 6C, Questions 8 and 9 on page 107 | October 14 |
Lab 8 Part 8E (construct cross-section only) | November 4 |
Lab 11 Part 11 F, #35-37 | November 11 |
Lab 12 Part 12D, #26-28 | November 18 |
FIELD TRIP: An optional half-day field trip will be on a Saturday or
a Sunday in October. More information will be provided in class and in lab.
Lab Assignments: Lab assignments: Read through the appropriate laboratories before coming to lab. The instructors will give a brief presentation with the assumption that you will have already read the material.
Special
Accommodations: Reasonable accommodations will be made for students with
disabilities. Please contact Disability Services (424-3100 (voice) or 424-1319
(TTY)) or visit their web site at http://www.uwosh.edu/dean/disabilities.htm
for the Universitys accommodation request form and documentation requirements.
Information related to an individuals accommodation request will be kept
confidential.
Academic Integrity: The Wisconsin Administrative Code states: Students
are responsible for the honest completion and representation of their work,
for the appropriate citation of sources, and for respect of others academic
endeavors. (§ UWS 14.01) Plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct
are serious offenses with severe penalties. See the University
of Wisconsin Oshkosh Student Discipline Code 2002-2003 for definitions of
academic misconduct and details about procedures, sanctions, and other relevant
information. Specific questions about the provisions in the Student Discipline
