Campus for Awareness and Relationship Education
CARE is a peer education group consisting of female and male ally students focused on raising awareness and preventing dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Peer Educators provide educational programs about Healthy Relationships, Consent, Sexual Rights and how to be a Male Ally.
In addition to serving as a campus resource on the topic of relationship violence, CARE offers presentations that are available to all university student groups, classes and community organizations.
The purpose of CARE is to:
- Promote awareness of relationship and sexual rights
- Assist students with getting resources and getting connected to the Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention Coordinator’s services
- Educate the campus on bystander intervention and healthy relationships
- Provide information about campus and community resources
Get Involved
CARE meetings are to be determine for Fall 2021. Keep a lookout for our schedule. We are always accepting new members!
Peer Educators
Please join us! We are looking for peer educators who are motivated and caring to volunteer with CARE. Our peer educators help us hold educational programs, presentations, informational tables, and campus event sponsorships to spread the word and stand up against sexual assault and other forms of relationship violence. Most peer educators will spend an hour or two a month helping out, but you can do a lot more if you like.
Internship opportunities
If you sign up for the CARE internship, the hourly requirement would vary between 6-9 hours per week and will provide you with an excellent opportunity to learn about domestic violence, sexual assault, as well as healthy relationships. As a peer educator you are tasked with taking that knowledge and educating the campus community to help us create a safer campus.

The CARE program was initiated in 1989, after date rape had been a concern at UW Oshkosh for years. Students, faculty and staff made a commitment to organize in order to address this issue on campus. CARE was formed as a result of this commitment with the coordination from the Dean of Students Office, Oshkosh Student Association, Women’s Center, University Police and Residence Life.
The CARE Student Director, Student Associate Director and Professional Advisor Emily O’Connor, LPC are involved in training and supervising the interns and volunteers. The Counseling Center has a long-standing commitment to providing caring and confidential services to students who are dealing with painful emotional experiences, including sexual assault.
