WRST-FM student station manager Christopher Mueller has resigned his post to take a season-long professional internship with the radio broadcast operations of Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays.

He began his internship in Florida on Feb. 22 and will be performing his duties under the auspices of the professional internship course offered by the UW Oshkosh’s radio-TV-film (RTF) department. The internship will run through the baseball post-season in October.

Mueller has served as WRST station manager since the fall of 2009, leading a staff of student managers and dozens of UWO students involved in the station’s operation. Prior to his WRST manager role, he served as sports director for both WRST and Titan TV.  He has had previous professional experience, interning during the summer of 2009 with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers minor league baseball team in Appleton and most recently with all-sports radio station WSCO-AM, also in Appleton.

In addition to taking the internship class, Mueller will remain active in his studies through online classes in the spring and fall. He plans to return to campus for the fall 2010 interim and complete his degree in the spring of 2011.

Mueller is one of numerous RTF students enrolled in the internship course. Currently, there are interns working in television news in both Green Bay and Milwaukee and in a variety of radio roles in Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh and Fond du Lac.
