Radio-TV-film (RTF) students at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh turned their education up a notch by listening, learning and earning certification in radio marketing Nov. 5 and Nov. 8 in the Arts and Communication building on campus.

For the first in its history, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA) hosted the two-day Radio Marketing Professional Certification seminar at UW Oshkosh.

“The seminar talked about the business side of sales and advertising in radio,” said Natalee Kasmiskie, a seminar attendee and RTF major.  “It helped us understand what to do in certain real-world situations.”

Besides learning from the lectures’ practical applications, students could earn a radio marketing professional certification by passing a 100-question multiple choice test based on the seminar, which normally would have cost $329 but was offered to seminar participants for $20.

“I think this type of experience could really give students a step up in getting a job in radio, especially advertising or marketing,” Kasmiskie said, a junior from Beaver Dam.

The conference also is offered at UW-Madison, UW-Stevens Point, UW-River Falls, UW-Green Bay, North Central Technical College in Wausau, Wis. and Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander, Wis.
