The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Alumni Association recently welcomed eight new members. Each month, another of the new members is featured. This month, meet Matthew Zimmerman.

Why did you volunteer to serve on the Alumni Board?
I was interested in serving on the Alumni Board because I thought it would be a great way to stay up to date on the things that are going on at UWO. I want to continue to be involved with the University.
What are you most looking forward to in this role?
I am looking most forward to seeing what initiatives the University is undergoing and connecting with some of my college classmates that I have lost touch with.
How did UW Oshkosh help you get where you are today?
The people I met at UWO and the skills I learned while I was there helped me to land a teaching job and, ultimately, helped me gain the skills in knowledge I use every day in my current position.
At UW Oshkosh, I had the opportunity to participate in so many extracurricular activities that allowed me to meet a variety of different people. This has helped me relate to a variety of different students, and that makes my job easier.
Please share a brief description of what you do in your job.
I work with a lot of students who need a little push in the right direction. In addition to being dean of students, I serve as the adviser for the Oshkosh West Student Council. I coach cross country in the fall and track in the spring. I enjoy working with the wonderful students and staff at West High School.
Any special memories of campus you would like to share?
I have so many good memories from college that it is hard to choose just one. I had a variety of memorable professors, too! Two that particularly stand out are Pam Gemin and Steve Rose. Both were great professors.
