Christmas will come to 90.3 WRST-FM, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s radio station, early this year.

The 20th annual presentation of the Dr. Christmas Radio Show, hosted by UW Oshkosh professor Gerry Grzyb, will air 1 to 6 p.m. Dec. 18-24.

“The show began as a way to bring fresh and different Christmas music to radio that other stations weren’t playing,” Grzyb said. “I like to think of it as the most musically diverse Christmas show anywhere.”

Even as the radio show has changed and evolved over the years, many traditions remain constant.

Fans of the Dr. Christmas Radio Show will be familiar with yearly readings of Christmas stories. This year, Grzyb will read short stories from “Christmas on the Great Plains,” edited by Kenneth and Dorothy Dodge Robbins.

The station also will feature a program honoring WRST’s founder, Robert “Doc” Snyder, who passed away in March. It will present a history of Christmas jazz recordings, airing 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17.

For listeners outside WRST’s broadcast area, the show will be available live in streaming audio. For the live stream and more information on Christmas shows past and present, visit http://www.uwosh.edu/wrst/index.php?page=christmas.
