Following seven months of construction, the completion of Phase II renovations at the Oshkosh Sports Complex are celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 16. Supporters from the community, Mayor Frank Tower, Oshkosh Visitors and Convention Bureau, Oshkosh high schools and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh attended.
Tours of the sports complex, which is utilized by Lourdes, Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West high schools and UW Oshkosh, were offered before and after the ceremony.
One visitor, Joe Perzentka, brought along a photo of the University’s 1935 championship football team and shared it with Titans head coach Pat Cerroni while touring the newly built locker rooms. Other improvements of Phase II included a new plaza entrance, upgraded restroom facilities, coaching offices, softball field and parking.
Phase I of the nearly $10-million project included the addition of the state-of-the-art J. J. Keller Field — a football/soccer field featuring synthetic, injury-reducing turf — softball and baseball fields and an Olympic-quality outdoor track.
With the renovation completed, the Oshkosh Sports Complex is not only an asset to the community, but also the premier athletics facility poised to host national events.
