The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has purchased its own dragon boat for the upcoming Oshkosh Community Dragon Boat Race and Festival, part of Fall Fest on the Fox, Sept. 19-20.

The dragon boat will be kept at the Aquatic Research Laboratory, giving members of the community the opportunity to paddle on a regular basis as part of a new club.

Anyone interested in joining the Dragon Boat Club should plan to attend an organizational meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Aquatic Research Laboratory, 783 Pearl Ave.  Following a presentation about the club, an organizational committee will be selected to write a constitution and bylaws.

After the meeting, there will be an opportunity to practice.

Annual membership cost is $50, which will go to support the club activities.  The club is open to anyone, and the purpose is to allow members an opportunity to paddle regularly, to form competitive teams if desired and to promote the sport of dragon boat racing.

More information about the club will be available at an information table located near the marshaling area at the Dragon Boat Race and Festival, Sept. 20, or by contacting Reeve Memorial Union Director Randy Hedge at (920) 424-2346 or hedge@uwosh.edu.
