The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Letters and Science Equity, Diversity and Inclusive Climate (EDIC) committee has named three students as the winners of the I-RISE Awards for the month of May.

  • Devin Heinz, a freshman political science major from Menasha studying on the Fox Cities campus, serves on the Fox Cities Campus Activities Board and works directly with organizations such as the King’s Program and the Change Agents Rallying for Gender Equity. Through his advocacy, he works to prevent negative sexual advancements and build a positive campus environment.
  • Hunter Nicole Adams, a freshman graphic design major from Milwaukee studying on the Fond du Lac campus, represents a beacon of positivity and hope on the Fond du Lac campus. Key to her philosophy is recognizing and expressing appreciation for others. According to Hunter, “The most powerful and positive affirmation to remember is: This too shall pass. And like my mom says to me: Don’t give up!”
  • Emily Xiong, senior psychology major from Omro studying on the Oshkosh campus, has remained a strong president for Hmong Student Union (HSU) despite adversity. Her leadership with HSU in addressing anti-Asian violence and working to build solidarity with other student organizations has been admirable. She continues to advocate for social justice that is inclusive for others.

The monthly I-RISE Awards—named for resilience, inspiration, strength and excellence—applaud UW Oshkosh students who have demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity, yet continue to advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion on the Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and Fox Cities campuses.
