Two University of Wisconsin Oshkosh educators will take part in the Wisconsin Teaching Fellows and Scholars Program for 2021-22.

Ashay Desai

Ashay Desai, a management and human resources professor, and Don Hones, a second language and multicultural education professor, are among the 26 interdisciplinary faculty and staff from across the UW System who will collaborate, discuss influential literature and be guided through systematic research focused on improving student learning through a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning project.

The year-long program usually begins in May but is postponed until spring 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. It’s one of three of UW System’s Office of Professional and Instructional Development programs and all three have been moved to 2021. Fellows and scholars will, however, meet online this summer to discuss texts on teaching and learning pedagogy, then later will take part in conferences, seminars and other group exercises.

“One of my goals for this program is to research ways to better support historically underrepresented students at the University,” Hones said, “and to help UW Oshkosh become more representative of the diverse young people who are graduating from our nation’s public schools.”

Participants come from all of the System’s 13 universities, with the exception of UW-Madison and with one participant from UW Extended Campus.
