The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has a solid foundation of donors across all three campuses who believe in investing in opportunities for students. The dividends are not only paid to individuals earning degrees but also to their families and communities. Though the motivations of donors’ generosity may be unique, the outcomes are often the same. Scholarships ease financial burdens and allow students more time to concentrate on their academic programs and provide opportunities like study abroad, undergraduate research and participation in student activities.
“Giving can be a very emotional process for our donors. They don’t always realize how fulfilling it can be to impact the path of a student. Students often feel obligated to honor the donors by applying themselves to the fullest extent. One of the most gratifying parts of my job is when I can foster the connections between scholarship benefactors and our outstanding students,” said Lynn Kleman ’86, ’17 MPA, interim associate vice chancellor for development.
The Isabelle St. John Art of Nursing Award was established by Isabelle “Izzy” ‘18, and her parents Lee and Joy while she was still finishing her nursing degree at UW Oshkosh. From a young age, Isabelle knew her true calling was to be a nurse. She believes in a holistic approach to nursing as a combination of science and the art of caring. Her namesake scholarship highlights and supports nursing students’ scholarly achievements as well as their compassion and care. This endowed scholarship will support students for generations to come.

Last year, 15 students participated in the juried show, raising $700 for the scholarship.
