Three University of Wisconsin Oshkosh graphic design students were awarded at the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Region 8 and 9 Conference for their exceptional work in four different categories of the Student Division Graphic Competition.

The UW Oshkosh students who were awarded include William Kaul, senior; Harrison Bowden, sophomore; and Sam Rice, sophomore. Kaul won a first place award for his logo design and a second place award for his t-shirt design. Bowden was recognized in the “one or two color poster” category and received a first place award. Rice also received a second place award for his work in the multimedia category.

“I feel very honored to receive these awards,” Kaul said. “I am proud to be able to represent Reeve Union marketing so well.”  Bowden echoed Kaul by stating, “It was a great opportunity for me to showcase my talents and build my portfolio.”

The ACUI Region 8 and 9 Conference was held on Nov. 5 and 6 at Valparaiso University in Indiana. There were nearly 175 attendants this year. Although ACUI is made up of 15 different regions, region 8 (Chicago, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula) and region 9 (Indiana and the rest of Illinois) have been holding their own annual conference for the past three years.

Over 30 educational sessions, a graphic design competition and a silent auction were held at the conference. The conference serves as a learning opportunity for union faculty, staff and student employees to share and gather information and ideas to take back to their schools.
