Robert Sipes, kinesiology, will attend the Athletic Training Educators Conference in Washington, D.C., February 2011. Sipes received support through the Faculty Development Program Off-Campus Component.

Nikki Reed, junior, was chosen as part of the 2010 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Team. UW Oshkosh senior forward Brian Miller, from the men’s soccer team, was chosen to be added to the all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team. The All-Sportsmanship Team includes one student from each college in Wisconsin and chooses individuals that show great sportsmanship throughout the season.
Elizabeth Cannon, director of the UW Oshkosh LGBTQ Resource Center, will be a guest at the Oshkosh Diversity Council meeting, Nov. 9, at 11:45 a.m. The council works to educate Oshkosh residents on diversity and promote exploration of it in the community. The council meets at the First Congregational Church, which is located at 137 Algoma Blvd., in Oshkosh.
Nate Stymiest, UWO cross country runner, automatically qualified for nationals when he finished in fourth-place at the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III Midwest Cross Country Regional on Nov. 13. The men’s cross country team finished in fifth-place and is waiting to find out if it will be going to finals.
The Wisconsin Humanitites Council has awarded Marquerite Helmers, English, a $9,938 grant for outreach events and a series of lectures to educate others on the history of the central and Great Plains. The series will also include stories about the buffalo and of the people of the plains.
The A-T Telethon raised over $7,000 in eight hours during its live event to raise awareness and money to find a cure for ataxia-telangiectasia. The event, broadcasted on Titan TV, was held at the UW Oshkosh Arts and Communication Building and was staffed by over 50 UW Oshkosh students.
UW Oshkosh student Mark Gleim is the winner of the inaugural Film & History Stipend for Design. Gleim’s artwork will appear on the front cover of the next issue of “Film & History: An Interdisciplinary Journal.” The semi-annual award is for any student at UW Oshkosh.
Alan Lareau, foreign languages and literatures, contributed to the project of a three CD set of archival soundtrack recordings from the film, “The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T.” The film follows piano teacher Dr. Terwilliker who plans to force 500 young boys to practice at his piano constantly. The script and lyrics were written by Dr. Seuss. Prior to the film’s release, the film was heavily edited to only six songs. This CD set is the restoration of the original version of the film as the authors intended it to be.
