The College of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh will throw a baby shower to collect equipment for its new simulated nursery and birthing suite.

SimBaby, a $40,000 simulated manikin, joins UW Oshkosh’s growing simulated family, which includes a simulated man that also can double as a female patient. These manikins enable nursing students to practice procedures in a safe, controlled environment without putting patients at risk.

Samples of needed equipment include a birthing bed, infant warmer, Nursing Anne and fundus pelvis. Financial donations are welcome and will be combined to purchase needed equipment. Kimberly-Clark will match the first $1,000 in donations received.

Baby gift donations also will be collected for the Christine Ann Center, a shelter for women and children who have suffered domestic abuse. Specific items needed are cold and flu medicine, diapers (size 5 and 6), toothbrushes, baby oil, Sippy cups and baby pacifiers.

The baby shower will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. April 21 on the lower level of the College of Nursing Building, 800 Algoma Blvd.

To R.S.V.P. or to support the shower, contact Colleen Huseboe, advancement officer for the College of Nursing, at (920) 424-3165. Reservations will be accepted until April 14.
