Menasha, Wis. (Aug. 20, 2015) – On Thursday, Aug. 20, the UW-Fox Valley Foundation hosted its Annual Scholars Evening in the Communication Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley. Donors from across the country had a chance to meet the students their funds supported at a reception prior to the awards ceremony as well as mingle with their families and friends at a post event get-together.
The evening awarded almost $200,000 in scholarships to 123 students. There were 68 named scholarships presented along with 5 Spotlight Scholarships highlighted. The Spotlight Scholarships awarded were the first time award of the Beth Davis Outstanding Alumni Scholarship presented by Community First Credit Union awarded to Lillian Halverson; the Doug & Carla Salmon Foundation Scholarships awarded to Jose Campos, Michael Jenkins, Pa Zoa Lee, Thomas Moua, Matthew Owensby and Joseph Wager-Smith III; first time award of the American National Bank of the Fox Cities Scholarship awarded to Samuel Ives; the Miller Electric Engineering Scholarships awarded to Jorge Coronado, Gerardo Enriquez, Alex Jones, Kimberly Fredericks, Marissa Lee, Kathryn Lenz, Armando Marquez, John MacDonald and Hazem Younis; and the first time award of the Jacob-Hannemann Music Scholarship to Tho Shia Lee.
“This is the largest number of students the Foundation has awarded scholarships to since its inception in 1977,” said Mary Beth Leopold, executive director of the UW-Fox Valley Foundation. “These scholarships will allow students to focus on and flourish in their academic careers with fewer worries about how they will pay for their education. Our goal is to give financial assistance to every student at UW-Fox Valley who needs it and this is a good start. Sadly there were still 226 students who applied that did not receive funding this year. That means our work is cut out for us to find more donors who want to invest in our students and the future leaders of our community.”
