UW Fox Professor Rachel Knighten, world languages, has been named to the Wisconsin Teaching Fellows and Scholars program for 2018-19.
Knighten will be a scholar in the program. Fellows and scholars selected for the program must provide evidence of excellent teaching, knowledge and interest in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and a record of campus leadership on issues of teaching and learning. Fellows are outstanding early career untenured faculty. Scholars are outstanding tenured faculty.
As a participant in this program, she will undertake a significant SoTL project supporting student success, record the project’s progress on an electronic poster and share results in public forums. Knighten’s project will focus on improving how she teaches culture in beginning-level Spanish language classes. Her goal is to integrate language learning and cultural lessons in ways that are meaningful in order to help students achieve their personal and professional goals.
“Professor Knighten is a recognized leader in teaching excellence and student engagement at UWFox,” said Dr. Martin Rudd, UW Colleges regional executive officer and dean. “Through her participation in this program, she will continue to develop learning experiences that further support student success in the classroom, now and in the future.”
