Emmert will conduct archival research on journalism and writing during World War I. In addition to working as reporters, American writers such as Ring Lardner, Damon Runyon and Richard Harding Davis also wrote fiction. His research will examine how war reporting affected each writer’s fiction. And, how each writer’s literary style influenced their journalism.

Emmert earned his Ph.D. at Purdue University. He joined the UWFox campus in 2002 and teaches American literature and composition courses.  He co-edited with Steven Trout “World War I in American Fiction: An Anthology of Short Stories.”
