Jordan Dreikosen, a two-time All-Conference athlete during his playing career as a Falcon, is returning to the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Athletic Department, this time as head men’s basketball coach.
According to Athletic Director Jeremiah Hoffmann, “Jordan brings two unmeasurable intangibles to the job: youth and enthusiasm. What he lacks now in experience he will make up for with hard work and getting our players to buy in to his system.”
Dreikosen returns for his fourth season as a Falcon after an illustrious playing career. A two-sport athlete at Campbellsport High School, Jordan played basketball for four years, winning first-team All-Conference honors while averaging 17 points and 7 rebounds per game. Dreikosen’s baseball career was similarly outstanding; as a pitcher, he earned All-State honors. Once he arrived in Fond du Lac, Dreikosen picked up where he left off in high school, averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds for the Falcons over his three years on the team and earning All-Conference honors twice.
Dreikosen has also coached the past several years for the 7th and 8th grade teams at Campbellsport Junior High and the Campbellsport High School Junior Varsity summer league team. His coaching career has been as successful as his playing career so far; Jordan’s JV team went 24-2 last summer, and his 7th and 8th grade teams have both had winning records in his time at the helm.
After having great success as a player, Coach Dreikosen hopes to bring a similar winning culture to the Falcon men’s basketball program. “I want this program to win ultimately,” said Dreikosen. “I’d like my guys to give 110% of their playing ability 110% of the time, whether that’s at practice or during our games. I’d like to be known as a program that plays hard every play so when teams face us, they know we are going to play with full force all game long.”
While Dreikosen wants to play hard on every possession, he says he is willing to tailor his strategy to his personnel. “I’d like to run an offense and defense that the guys are comfortable and fluent with. Whether that’s man or zone on defense, or pushing the ball in transition or controlling the pace on offense, I’ll base my decisions on the guys who are returning.”
After graduating with his associate’s degree from UW-Fond du Lac in spring 2018, Jordan’s experiences as a player and student have him excited about returning. “We are on the up and up. We’ve had a few down years but over the next few years, we are looking much better and the future is bright,” said Dreikosen. That bright future extends not only to athletics, but also to the education Falcon student-athletes receive. “With the addition of on campus housing to our two-year campus, UW-Fond du Lac will help kids academically from all over the state. The professors are more than willing to help you with anything you want and need to succeed.”
