Black Maria Film Festival

Celebrating short films, the Black Maria Film & Video Festival annual tour will make a stop at 6:30 p.m. on April 17 at UW-Fond du Lac’s Prairie Theater, 400 University Dr.

The community is invited to this free event.  UW-Fond du Lac is the only Wisconsin venue again on this year’s tour. Student films will start off the evening at 5:30 p.m.

This is the fourth year the university has hosted this film festival. “It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity locally to see short films of this caliber,” said UW-Fond du Lac Dean and CEO John Short. “The films that are featured in this series are often bold, provocative and ground-breaking. They stretch our imaginations.”

Short adds that these are not traditional entertainment films. The films include animation, documentary and experimental films and run in length from just two minutes to 20 minutes.

“You may find some of the films to be bewildering, but others may leave you with an entirely new perspective on the way that you look at the world,” he said. “The creativity of the film-makers, however, will be something that viewers do not easily forget.”

John Columbus, founder and director emeritus of the Black Maria Film Festival, will be on hand to introduce the films at UW-Fond du Lac. This is a unique opportunity for additional insight into the festival selections which include independent, experimental and cutting-edge short films.

The film festival is sponsored by UW-Fond du Lac Segregated University Fee Advisory Committee (SUFAC) and Fine Arts and Lecture Committee. The films presented may not be suitable for all ages.
