The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac will host an artist reception in conjunction with Tour the Town Art Walk, 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, in the University Center Commons, 400 University Dr., Fond du Lac.

The community is invited to meet artist John Pahlas who is exhibiting his salvaged steel sculptures at the reception.

The exhibit titled Nature/In/dustrial and Satis/Factory can be viewed in the Visual Arts Gallery (Room A-125) and the Oberreich Gallery (in the University Center Commons) at UW-Fond du Lac through Feb. 27. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“Art has had an influence on my life since birth,” said Pahlas in his artist statement. “Much of my work revolves around nature and mankind’s place within it. The challenge of giving human energy and thought to a physical form has always kept my creative intentions evolving. I work mainly with recycled steel that I’ve found and collected over the years – buckets of punch outs from machine presses or old rusted motor chains and abandoned rebar – these fragments come together and coalesce meaningful and reflective sculptural forms.”

The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the community. Light refreshments will be available.

“This exhibit is a dynamic and exciting sculptural experience, and a great honor to host at our campus,” said Wendi Turchan, UW-Fond du Lac art instructor and gallery director. “We are especially thrilled to host the artist reception in conjunction with the Tour the Town Art Walk. This is a great way to partner with the many local artists we have in our community and in Wisconsin.”
