Robert Gordon, custodial services, has been named the recipient of the STAR Award for October 2010. Connie Whittaker, biology/microbiology, nominated him. The nomination letter follows:

“Rob exhibits exemplary performance in carrying out his daily duties as a custodian for the Halsey Science Building, first floor.

“Rob is meticulous in his duties as a custodian.  Wiping down kick plates and door handles and ensuring everything is spotless and shiny.  Although he is assigned the first floor of South Halsey, he will accommodate requests anywhere in the building if needed.  He has assisted staff in other areas of the building when assigned custodial staff was not available.  He has assisted with large jobs that are not part of his job description such as helping to relocate lab equipment, disposing of large quantities of garbage from an office relocation, assisting with students that needed medical attention and much more.  All of these extra duties were performed in areas outside of Rob’s assigned area.  He is always ready to help anyone out if he can.

“Rob has a lot of pride in his work and keeps his area spotless.  He comes in earlier than required to get the sidewalks salted in the winter time and his hallways are always immaculate.  He is probably one of the hardest working custodians I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.  He makes the work place a much more comfortable place because of his daily efforts.  He truly deserves to be recognized for his contributions to the campus.”

Winners of the STAR Award receive a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for one month and a gift from University Books & More. The award for exceptional performance is presented each month to a member of the classified staff who has worked at least six months at UW Oshkosh.

Debra Talkington, College of Letters and Science Dean’s Office, submitted this announcement. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
