The nationally ranked University of Wisconsin Oshkosh women’s basketball team will take part in the first college game to be played in Oshkosh’s Menominee Nation Arena, the home of the National Basketball Association (NBA) G League’s Wisconsin Herd.

UW Oshkosh is set to play Carroll University on Dec. 30 in the newly constructed 3,600-seat professional basketball arena. Tipoff for the 24th meeting between the teams is set for 2 p.m.

“We are extremely excited to partner with the Menominee Nation Arena staff on this event,” UW Oshkosh head coach Brad Fischer said. “We look to create as many experiences as possible for our student-athletes, and I believe this opportunity will be something our players will always remember.”

The matchup against Carroll University will be the Titans’ second home game of the year. UW Oshkosh defeated the Pioneers by an 84-51 score last year in Waukesha.

UW Oshkosh opened the 2017-2018 season on Nov. 18 against Otterbein University (Ohio) at the Main View Tipoff Tournament in Manchester, Ind. The Titans conducted their home opener in Kolf Sports Center against Edgewood College on Nov. 21.

Last season UW Oshkosh compiled a 26-4 record and captured its 12th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship by defeating 13 of its 14 league opponents. The Titans enter the 2017-2018 season ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com and 12th by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

UW Oshkosh advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship a year ago, marking the fourth consecutive season that UW Oshkosh won at least one game at the national tournament. UW Oshkosh ended the 2016-2017 season ranked ninth by D3hoops.com and 12th by the WBCA.

The Wisconsin Herd, owned by the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, is a new franchise in the NBA G League team located in Oshkosh. The 26-team NBA G League is the NBA’s official minor league.

“I know this arena will be an incredible asset to this community and for us to play the first college basketball game in this facility is incredibly special,” Fischer said. “That privilege is not lost on our women’s basketball program.”
