Cheryl F. Green has been named University of Wisconsin Oshkosh vice chancellor for student affairs.

Green was selected for the role after a nationwide search and will join the UW Oshkosh campus community July 1.

Green comes to UW Oshkosh from Tennessee State University where since 2012 she served as assistant vice president of student affairs. She also served as the interim chief student affairs officer for one year at Tennessee State, reporting directly to the university president.

Green brings to UW Oshkosh more than 25 years of experience working in higher education and student affairs, as well as 14 years of experience in administration.

“Cheryl has made life-changing and life-saving support for students the focus of her work and a source of her passion for a nearly three decades long career in public higher education,” Chancellor Andrew Leavitt said. “Her values are aligned with our institutional values and reflected in our commitment to student success, fostering an inclusive environment, and strengthening the campus as a sustainable place to learn, live and work.”

“We are fortunate to welcome Cheryl, her expertise and her enthusiasm to UW Oshkosh and the broader community,” Leavitt said.

Before her time at Tennessee State, Green served at Chicago State University in a variety of progressive roles, including director/chair of the counseling department, dean of first-year student experience, acting associate director of career placement and as a counseling professor. She also served as director of career planning and placement at University of Michigan-Flint.

Green has a doctorate and master’s degree in counseling psychology from Southern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Manchester College. She also holds a National Incident Management System certificate from the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Institute, has been trained in crisis intervention, and is recognized as an expert in grievance mediation and conflict resolution.

The vice chancellor for student affairs reports directly to the Chancellor providing leadership, coordination and strategic direction to a comprehensive array of services and programs within the student affairs division at UW Oshkosh.

“I am honored to serve as the vice chancellor for student affairs at UW Oshkosh. During my recent visit to the campus, I interacted with an amazing team of dedicated professionals and outstanding students,” Green said. “Together, we will advance the goals associated with the four priorities outlined in the campus Strategic Plan for 2016-2021, which highlights the importance of enhancing student success, promoting academic excellence, expanding our relationships with community stakeholders and building a more inclusive and supportive environment. I look forward to serving as a principal advocate for the needs of the student body, the campus community and the region.”

“I believe that this next chapter of my life will be the greatest chapter,” she said.

Green will take over the position from Brandon Miller, who served in the interim role since July 2016. Petra Roter, who left UW Oshkosh in 2016, previously oversaw student affairs for more than 11 years.
