The daylong event held in Reeve Memorial Union begins with a welcome at 8:15 a.m.and concludes with the WiSys Quick Pitch Competition at 1:30 p.m. and the Provost’s Awards Reception at 4 p.m.

Posters and visual art exhibits will be on display from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Reeve Ballroom and the Steinhilber Gallery, respectively. Presenters will be available to discuss their work from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Quick Pitch Competition, to be held in the Wisconsin Room 306, is new to this year’s event.

“The WiSys Quick Pitch is a competition aimed at encouraging innovative and entrepreneurial thinking by inspiring students from all academic disciplines to consider the impact of their research and how their findings could one day benefit the local economy and/or society,” said Jennifer Cook, associate director of WiSys Technology Foundation.

Participants learn the art of a “quick pitch,” which helps prepare them for presenting at campus research days, other academic conferences as well as statewide events, such as Research in the Rotunda, and national events, such as those offered by National Conferences on Undergraduate Research.

Fourteen students will take part in the competition from a range of academic disciplines, including biology, geology, history, information systems, psychology, supply chain management and urban planning. First place winners in two categories—social sciences/humanities and science/technology—will receive $250 and the chance to compete in the state final at the 10th-annual Wisconsin Science and Technology Symposium July 24-25 in Platteville. Second place winners will  receive $125 each.
