Kevin Backstrom, a retired senior lecturer in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Department of Communication Studies, passed away on Feb. 8, at his home in Oshkosh.
Backstrom, who joined the UW Oshkosh community in 1999 and retired in 2015,was known for his hard work, dedication and willingness to help out when needed. As an Introduction to Public Speaking teacher, he was actively involved in the University Studies Program. Backstrom also regularly volunteered at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
Many fondly remember Backstrom’s presence in the department and at the University. As one of his colleagues noted: “Kevin had a great sense of humor. Along with his love of jokes, we will miss his commentary on pop culture and politics. In addition, Kevin was a good listener who was always interested in his colleagues’ lives beyond the classroom. Certainly, his caring nature and thoughtfulness will be missed.”
Prior to his time at UW Oshkosh, Backstrom worked in Florida as an instructor and television production assistant. Backstorm earned a bachelor’s degree from the UW-Madison and a master’s degree from Barry University.
At this time, memorial arrangements have not been announced.
