UW Oshkosh Spring Commencement2More than 1,100 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Titans will have their day to graduate.

[updated Dec.19: The official midyear commencement ceremony has been rescheduled for Jan. 21, 2017. The original Dec. 17 ceremony was canceled due to a winter storm.]

Of those, nearly 900 will graduate with a bachelor’s degree and more than 140 with a master’s degree–both, a meaningful milestone as graduates leave UW Oshkosh and head out into the world where they will join 90,000 other UW Oshkosh alumni.

The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. at Kolf Sports Center, 738 High Ave., on the UW Oshkosh campus. The ceremony will last about two hours.

“Titans are change-makers,” said Travis Cardarella, this year’s student commencement speaker  who is graduating with a degree in communication studies. “We are determined, engaged, curious and resourceful. To be a Titan is to actively revitalize your sense of purpose and, in doing so, create change within the environment around you.”

Like most students who will conclude their educational journey, Cardarella said commencement serves as a “time to reflect on all that’s been accomplished within this chapter of our journeys.”

UW Oshkosh Chancellor Andrew Leavitt will confer diplomas to the graduating students. State Representative Michael Schraa will offer greetings from the state and Eve Hall will represent the UW System Board of Regents.

This year’s faculty commencement speaker is M. Ryan Haley from the College of Business. Community leaders Dennis and Karlene Leatherman will accept the Chancellor’s Medallion honor.

Following the formal ceremony, a reception for faculty, and new alumni, their parents and guests will be held in Kolf’s lower level.
