Chancellor Andrew Leavitt has declared Nov. 7–11, 2016 UW Oshkosh Nontraditional Student Week. The campus community and student organizations will celebrate with a week of activities and events.
The week coincides with the National Nontraditional Student Week and recognizes adult nontraditional students at UW Oshkosh. In honor and recognition of returning adult students, colleges and universities throughout the United States participate by hosting events and highlighting efforts that improve adult student services. The week is celebrated annually during the first full week of November.
Dr. Charles Hill, executive director of the Division of Lifelong Learning and Community Engagement (LLCE), said that he feels this designation is important for the University because the number of adult learners who enroll in traditional, online and graduate programs continues to increase at UW Oshkosh.
“Nontraditional students make up a significant part of the campus community,” Hill said. “Adult learners have so much to provide in the classroom, student organizations and the campus community because of their life experiences. As a campus, we continuously strive to ensure that student services meet their needs.”
UW Oshkosh has nearly 3,000 adult nontraditional students enrolled in traditional, online or graduate degree programs.
Hill said he feels this designation is “an excellent opportunity to recognize how hard adult learners work to balance school, work and family obligations, while at the same time bringing awareness for services that are available to this group of outstanding students.”
The Division of Lifelong Learning, in collaboration with Reeve Union, is hosting events throughout the week to celebrate Nontraditional Student Week.
