Effective Feb. 1, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh radio station WRST has affiliated with the Global Community Radio network to provide programming for online streaming and for occasional on-air use as well.

WRST airs Wisconsin Public Radio’s Ideas Network from 2 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily, but is not permitted to stream the WPR content. The Global Community Radio network will now be heard on the WRST stream (wrst.org) during these hours and the station will continue to stream its local student-produced programs at other times.

Global Community Radio has searched the world for alternative music programs for this service and WRST stream listeners will hear everything from classical music to bluegrass to Motown to Broadway showtunes.

During the summer and semester breaks, some GCR programs will also be heard over the air on WRST.  The station plans to air GCR programs from 1 p.m. to midnight on weekdays. GCR’s afternoon programs are all jazz, complimenting WRST’s afternoon student-hosted jazz programs.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
