The following Class Notes were received recently in the UW Oshkosh Alumni Office.

’72 Jay Hammes (EHS), of Racine, was inducted into the Park High School Hall of Fame. Hammes is an athletic administrator and has devoted his professional life to public education in the Racine Unified School District.

73 Sister Catherine Verbeten (MSE), of Racine, celebrated 80 years in ministry. The 102-year-old Sister was a teacher and reading center coordinator in Wisconsin and Michigan.

 ’75 Gary Beyer (B) and ’80 (MBA), of Oshkosh, spoke about his new book, I Promise I’ll Pay Attention, at Readers’ Realm in Montello. He has 28 years of experience in manufacturing accounting.

’79 Gregory Peck (LS), of Janesville, wrote Death Beyond the Willows and spoke about his book at the Island Church Annual Picnic in Waterloo. He has earned a variety of journalism and nonfiction awards.

 ’82 Colonel Brian Haebig (LS), of Holly Springs, N.C., retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of active duty service. He has commanded at the Brigade, Battalion and Company levels, served in the first Gulf War, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq. He is now a Department of Defense civilian at Fort Bragg.

 ’91 David Haase (B), of Fond du Lac, biked in the Race Across America competition— a 3,000-mile endurance ultracycling race. It was his fifth time competing.

’97 Joel Fleischman (LS), of Kewaskum, is president of Drexel Building Supply, which took second in its size category in the Journal Sentintel’s contest for top workplaces in southeastern Wisconsin. Fleischman has grown the business from one building in Campbellsport to more than five locations.

’99 Scott Michels (LS), of Oregon, was promoted to managing actuary at CUNA Mutual Group. He has been with the company since 2011.

 ’00 John Ruby (LS), of Fort Collins, Colo., was appointed to the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The committee provides advice on public health issues related to safety of the food supply in the U.S.

’01 Christine (Evans) Oelke (B), of Beaver Dam, was promoted to assistant vice president of marketing at Horicon Bank.

’03 Jonathan Peterson (EHS) and ’07 (MS), of Appleton, accepted the principal position for Westside Elementary School in Kimberly. Prior, he was dean of Merrill Middle School in Oshkosh for three years.

 ’04 Kathryn ‘Katy’ (Morris) Enrique (B), of Lindenhurst, Ill., is the spokesperson for Six Flags Great America, where she handles media inquiries, crisis management and external communications. She has been with Six Flags for 15 years.

’05 Robert Van Kirk (LS), of Altoona, was hired as the vice president of treasury management for Horicon Bank.

’06 Kimberly (Sprang) Christoffel (LS), of Two Rivers, is the new marketing director for Shipbuilders Credit Union.

’06 Matthew Dorner (LS), of Milwaukee, is the economic development director for Milwaukee Downtown Business Improvement District No. 21. In the future, he plans to promote redevelopment along the downtown streetcar route.

 ’06 Joseph Fikejs (MBA), of DePere, joined Bank Mutual as chief operating officer. He’s located at the corporate headquarters in Milwaukee, where he will lead operations and information services divisions.

 ’06 Bryan Hochstein (LLCE) and ’10 (MBA), of Tallahassee, Fla., will graduate from Florida State University with a doctorate in marketing in spring 2016.

 ’09 Ryan Aschaker (LS), of Madison, started a local sports television show, “The Sports News,” that airs on CW57 in Madison. The program, similar to ESPN’s Sports Center, focuses on local high schools, colleges, semi-professional teams and club sports. Aschaker also hosts “The Restaurant Show” on CW57 and is a DJ on 94.1 WJJO.

’09 Dan Ellenberger (B), of Oshkosh, earned his Certified Public Accountant credential. He has been with Executive Director Inc., a Milwaukee-based association management company, since 2009.

’11 Deseray Aguirre (LS), of Honey Creek, will graduate in December from Marquette University with a master’s in nursing.

 ’11 Jeremy Jirschele (LLCE), of Wausau, was named head baseball coach for the UW-Stevens Point. Prior, he was the assistant coach, helping lead the team to a 133-53 record over a four-season span.

’12 Raeann Bennett (LS), of Kaukauna, earned her doctorate in physical therapy from UW-La Crosse. She earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from UW Oshkosh, and will be working for Bellin Health Sports Medicine in Green Bay.

’12 Devin Hundt (LS), of Fort Atkinson, was awarded the Buell Graduate Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to graduates of Fort Atkinson High School or residents of the area pursuing graduate education. In 2012, he was named Outstanding Microbiology Student, and is currently studying veterinary medicine at UW-Madison.

’13 Ryan Gloe (LS), of DePere, joined the New London Police Department. He was formerly a Waupaca County reserve officer.

’15 Phillip Aiello (LS), of Lebanon, Tenn., is working as an alumni services and communications consultant for the Sigma Pi fraternity. He joined the organization while enrolled at UWO.

 ’15 Dakota Close (B), of Oshkosh, was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

’15 Lance Fritz (EHS), of Coloma, is the new head coach of the Adams-Friendship High School basketball team. He’s an alum of the Adams-Friendship High School basketball team and played on the UWO men’s team from 2012-2013.

’15 Kaylie Sandretti (EHS), of Allenton, was hired as the social studies teacher for seventh and eighth-graders in the Mayville School District.

 ’15 Kenneth Stoflet (LS), of Wisconsin Rapids, is working at Renaissance Learning as a marketing copywriter. Renaissance Learning sells software that helps K-12 teachers with math and English instruction.
