This year, the event will examine and celebrate the intersection between public service and activism.

The keynote speaker is Representative JoCasta Zamarripa of the 8th Assembly District in Milwaukee. One of two openly LGBTQ+ members of the Wisconsin Legislature, Representative Zamarripa made history in 2010 as the first Latina elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly.

A 2005 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, she has worked as an educator and community outreach coordinator at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. She was also active with 9 to 5 National Association of Working Women, served as board secretary for 9 to 5 Milwaukee and was a board member for Equality Wisconsin.

The Harvey Milk Commemorative Dinner honors the courage and spirit of Harvey Milk, whose activism set an example of how crucial education is to social change. Please join us for an evening of activism, our annual silent auction and the presentation of the 2014 student scholarships.

This dinner seeks to encourage and support all members of the LGBTQ+ community at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and the greater Fox Valley region. Our goal is to create an endowed scholarship for LGBTQ+ students and an award fund that provides financial assistance toward projects dedicated to improving the climate in our K–12 systems within the Fox Valley.

Can’t come? Please consider making a tax-deductible charitable contribution to theHarvey Milk Commemorative Fund through the UW Oshkosh Foundation.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
