Each December, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh sociology professor Gerry Grzyb has taken on the persona of “Dr. Christmas” on WRST-FM. He returns for the 25th year of his holiday music program beginning 1 p.m. Monday, December 16. Grzyb will provide 38 hours of music from his gigantic personal collection of holiday recordings.
The show will air on WRST (90.3 FM and www.wrst.org) from 1–6:00 p.m. Dec. 16-20, 1–7 p.m. Dec. 21 and 1–8 p.m. on Dec. 22. Once again, the program will be simulcast over UW Oshkosh’s Titan TV for Oshkosh subscribers to Time Warner Cable on digital channel 57. To accompany the music from WRST, Titan TV will run a continuous video of a burning fireplace. In addition, Titan TV will bracket the Dr. Christmas offerings each day with special showings of the 1964 cult holiday film “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians,” part of the Titan TV library of classic films. Show times preceding each day’s broadcast are at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
During last year’s broadcasts, online listeners tuned in from throughout the United States as well as from Canada. Playlists from past years and other information about the program can be found at www.uwosh.edu/drchristmas
WRST will also offer special holiday music programs as part of local programming from 1–5 p.m. on Dec. 14 and 15.
