Kay Eslinger, facilities management, has been named the recipient of the STAR Award for July 2010. Chuck Hermes nominated her. The nomination letter follows:

“I would like to nominate Kay Eslinger for the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Star Award.  In the past months, in the absence of Mark Streufert, Kay’s supervisor, I was able to witness first hand Kay’s dedication and willingness to go the extra mile.

During the snowfalls in December I came to realize how much of a team player Kay is.  She is always more than willing to help out her fellow team members and go that extra mile.  She also helped me to better understand the workings of the Grounds Department and the many opportunities they face.  Her concern for students and faculty is amazing.

“What really made me want to nominate Kay was the work she did to organize the grounds cold storage area on Third Street. When the Grounds Department moved from 845 High Avenue to the new location at 3rd Street the department was into their busy fall work schedule.  Regardless of workload it became necessary to move to keep the new academic building project on schedule.  Equipment and tools were basically moved rather haphazardly with the intent of organizing at a later date when time permitted.

“Almost single-handedly, Kay, with a handful of students, during the cold month of January dedicated themselves to organizing the 40-by-150 foot unheated building. Pallet racks were ordered and setup, equipment moved and stored in logical order.  At the onset this project looked like an impossible feat but with Kay’s dedication she was able to work through it.  Today the shop is well organized; shovels, rakes, lawnmower equipment, irrigation equipment, fleet tires, and more other pieces of seasonal equipment are easily accessible.

“Thanks Kay for your dedication and teamwork”

Winners of the STAR Award receive a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for one month and a gift from University Books & More. The award for exceptional performance is presented each month to a member of the classified staff who has worked at least six months at UW Oshkosh.
