Nearly 1,000 Special Olympics athletes will travel to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh April 9-11 to compete in state basketball and gymnastics tournaments.

The Opening Ceremonies will feature the Team Wisconsin basketball team, who will represent the state at the 2010 USA National Games in Nebraska this summer. The team will kick off the tournament with a basketball scrimmage against a team of coaches from across the state at 7 p.m. Friday, April 9, at the Kolf Sports Center.

The public is invited to the dance competition and victory party during the Closing Ceremonies at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the Kolf Sports Center. Spectators are encouraged to cheer the athletes on at this family-oriented, free event.

Competition begins April 10 and continues through April 11. The schedule follows:

  • Team Basketball — 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 10 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 11, Kolf Sports Center
  • Gymnastics — 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 10, Kolf Sports Center
  • Basketball Skills — 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 10, Albee Gymnasium
