The Wisconsin Academic Advising Association (WACADA) recognized three University of Wisconsin Oshkosh academic advising professionals for their outstanding record of success.

  • Bryan Bain received the WACADA Advising Excellence Award for his distinction in developmental advising and leadership as assistant director of academic advising at UW Oshkosh. The award acknowledges candidates who exhibit a wide range of effective advising qualities including strong interpersonal skills, mastery of institutional regulations and a caring attitude and behavior.
  • UW Oshkosh College of Nursing adviser Dawn Downs-Arnold received the WACADA Outstanding Achievement Award for her contributions to an online advising program, the Peer Advising Liaison (PAL) program and her service on multiple UW Oshkosh committees. The award is a state-wide recognition earned through distinctive contributions, such as developing creative student programs and at least 10 years of service in the advising profession.
  • Cindy Fruhwirth, assistant director of academic advising for the College of Business, received a grant for professional development funds from WACADA and presented a workshop at the national association in San Antonio in September.

Nominations were submitted by Lynn Freeman, director of Academic Advising, and Liz Whalley of the Undergraduate Advising Resources Center. Each candidate was required to submit a resume, advising philosophy and a history of professional development.
