The race is on to find paddlers and volunteers for the ninth-annual Fall Fest on the Fox, Sept. 25-26. The two-day, family-friendly festival celebrates the campus community by building bridges between the public and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

The festival unfolds with the buffet-style Fish Fry on the Fox at Blackhawk Commons, 725 Algoma Blvd. Other Friday-night events include an artists’ reception for the UW Oshkosh Alumni Art Exhibit at the Steinhilber Art Gallery in Reeve Memorial Union, 748 Algoma Blvd., and the Oshkosh Community Dragonboat Paddle Party at Leach Amphitheater in downtown Oshkosh.

“Fall Fest is a great opportunity for University faculty, staff and students to connect with the Oshkosh community,” said Chancellor Richard H. Wells. “I encourage everyone to experience the fun-filled weekend, either as a visitor or a volunteer.”

Co-sponsored by UW Oshkosh and the Oshkosh Area YMCA, the Oshkosh Community Dragonboat Race and Festival, held Saturday, will feature a flotilla of 40-foot-long canoe-like vessels nagivate the Fox River at Riverside Park. More than 40 teams of 20 paddlers competed for medals, trophies and bragging rights.

“We are thrilled with ongoing camaraderie exhibited by the returning rival teams, and we look forward to welcoming new paddlers to this fun, unique competition,” said Kate Unger, Reeve Memorial Union marketing director.

The cost to register is $1,000 per team. More than 200 volunteers are needed at the Dragonboat festival alone — from registration to dock-side assistance to clean up — to make the event a success.
