The American Democracy Project has scheduled its Constitution Day speaker for Sept. 18.
Christopher Schmidt, from Chicago Kent College of Law, will speak about the tension between the 10th Amendment’s reservation of powers to the states and people and the 9th Amendment’s allowance for additional rights to be added to the Bill of Rights. His timely talk is entitled Broccoli, Liberty, and the Constitutional Battle over Health Care.

Constitution Day, recognized nationally on Sept. 17, commemorates the ratification of the Constitution in 1787 and encourages students to become informed citizens. Educational institutions that receive federal funding are mandated to recognize the day; annually UW Oshkosh holds several Constitution Day events.
