Former University of Wisconsin Oshkosh pitcher Jarrod Washburn earned his 100th Major League Baseball victory when the Seattle Mariners defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 11-3, April 15 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Wash.

Washburn, who is in his fourth season with the Mariners, pitched the first six innings against the Angels and allowed two runs and four hits.

He struck out four batters in improving his 2009 record to 2-0. Washburn previously pitched eight scoreless innings to pick up the victory in the Mariners’ 2-0 win over the Minnesota Twins on April 9.

Washburn played the 1994 and 1995 seasons for UW Oshkosh, registering a 15-2 record and a 1.97 earned run average in 118.2 innings pitched. The 1995 NCAA Division III All-America second team selection struck out 141 batters during his UW Oshkosh career, including 17 in a 1-0 win over UW-Whitewater in 1995.

In 1994, Washburn scattered nine hits and struck out eight batters to earn the win as the Titans defeated Wesleyan University in the championship game of the NCAA Division III World Series.

Washburn, 34, spent the first eight seasons of his major league career with The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He then signed a four-year, free-agent contract with the Mariners following the 2005 season.

Washburn was a second round draft pick by the Angels in 1995. He worked his way up the minor league system and made his major league debut in 1998. Washburn’s best year came in 2002 when he posted an 18-6 record and a 3.15 earned run average during the Angels’ World Series championship season. He placed fourth that season in the balloting for the American League’s Cy Young Award.

Washburn has pitched in 286 games during his 12-year major league career, including 274 as a starter. The Webster, Wis., native owns a 100-100 record and a 4.10 earned run average in 1,701.2 innings pitched. His career statistical totals also include eight complete games, three shutouts, one save and 1,011 strikeouts.

Washburn is one of two former Titans currently pitching in the major leagues, with the other being Jack Taschner of the Philadelphia Phillies. Taschner is in his first season with the Phillies after being traded from the San Francisco Giants in March. Taschner has pitched in 180 major league games, 178 with the Giants and two with the Phillies.
