The Feb. 10, 2009, Faculty Senate meeting was called to order by President Bill Wacholtz. Jim Simmons reported on some of the issues being discussed by the Faculty Reps. Included was the UW System Board of Regents’ approval of sabbatical guidelines. The discussion on this topic was moved from “Items from Members.”

It was decided that the Senate president, in consultation with the executive committee, the faculty advocacy committee and Faculty Development Office, draft a statement to the Regents outlining our concerns about their actions.

Susan Nuernberg reported on LERT and asked for faculty input on tailoring various metarubrics to meet the needs of UWO. Representatives from LERT will visit all of the academic departments to present the rubrics and ask for their input.

The minutes of Jan.13, 2009 were approved.

New business

  • Miles Maguire, chair of the Administrative Evaluation Committee, requested a change of the charge of their committee. Discussion followed.
  • President Wacholtz will report to the Senate the results of a meeting with the Chancellor, Miles Maguire, Associate Provost Rettig on how to formally change the evaluation process of administrators and the role of the committee in that process.
  • Randy Hedge from Reeve Union and Charity Chandler from Sodexho presented dining options to encourage more faculty use. Senators provided suggestions to help Dining Services better meet the needs of faculty.
  • Two committee appointments, forwarded by the committee on committees, were approved.
