Peru, Germany, Tanzania, China and more than 45 other locations – they are all places University of Wisconsin Oshkosh students can travel to through a dynamic, enriching, study abroad experience.

Students who have been a part of a study abroad experience say there is nothing like it. And those students who haven’t traveled abroad, but may be interested, are invited to attend the annual UW Oshkosh Study Abroad Fair on Feb. 9, held at Reeve Memorial Union from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The UW Oshkosh Office of International Education provides study abroad opportunities to almost every continent. The fair will offer those interested a one-stop place to learn more and ask questions. With more than 50 faculty-led and student exchange programs to choose from, organizers of the annual fair say there is a destination for every interest.

“It was worth every penny,” said Jenna Laabs, International Student Services intern in the Office of International Studies, reflecting on her personal educational adventure in the Netherlands.

Study abroad experiences for UW Oshkosh students are as diverse as the program destinations.

Amy Pinkston, director of communications and marketing for the College of Business, recently helped lead a group of more than a dozen students to Peru. Pinkston documented the experiences on a blog.

“Aside from the classroom education provided during the trip, the field trips to various companies gave the students a first-hand view of global business and the cultural education they received from traveling throughout Peru is invaluable,” Pinkston said. “Many of the comforts we take for granted were not readily available and it was an eye-opening experience for everyone. “

UW Oshkosh students can participate in study abroad programs for durations as short as a three-week interim to as long as one year. And, students are not the only ones that can take advantage of these opportunities. Faculty and staff at the University, as well as members of the Oshkosh community, can participate in the programs, too.

The cost of studying abroad is dependent on the location and length of the trip. During the fair students will not only be able to explore exciting destinations, but also learn about scholarships and financial aid options. Coordniators said the fair offers countless opportunties to connect with UW Oshkosh faculty and staff who lead study-abroad programs and the students and alumni who have directly benefitted from the array of trips.

“The Study Abroad Fair is a good resource for general information on ‘How do you do this?’ ‘How does it work?’ ‘Does financial aid apply?’… and, yes, it does,” said Mary Reinke, program coordinator in the UW Oshkosh Office of International Education.”
