Smiles, tears and cheers flooded Reeve Memorial Union on the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh campus Jan. 20, when students, faculty and staff gathered to witness the historic inauguration of Barack Obama, the first African-America president of the United States.
“I’m just extremely motivated and excited,” said senior Dolly Ringwala, an international studies major. “It really shows that anybody can do anything they put their mind to.”
A retired UW Oshkosh political science professor pulled up a front-row seat with his wife to witness the historic event.
“This day marks a new America,” Dr. Martin Gruberg said. “The change is going to be tremendous.”
Senior journalism major Felicia Clark made herself comfortable on a couch in the Titan Underground to watch her first inauguration ceremony.
“This is a very important day in our history and gives us a positive outlook for the future,” Clark said.
