Jennifer Davies, academic department associate in the Department of Public Affairs, has been named recipient of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh June 2011 STAR Award.

In early spring the CSAC Awards & Recognition Committee voted to award the June STAR award to Davies.  As June arrived, due to circumstances beyond the control of anyone, the award was unable to be presented.  The Committee worked with the nominators and the June STAR award was finally awarded to Jennifer on December 1, 2011.

Davies was nominated by Department of Public Affairs Professor Craig Maher. Portions of his nomination submission follow:

“Jenny has been a rock for the Department which has two distinct Programs, Criminal Justice and Public Administration, and is in the process of splitting into two separate Departments.  At her request, she will be serving as Academic Department Associate for both Departments.

Jenny’s positive personality is infectious and puts everyone in better spirits.  She has helped clear offices due to faculty departures, renovations and painting, and personally taken equipment to surplus in order to save the Department.  She makes my life as Chair so much easier by managing students, faculty requests and Department needs.  For Department meetings, she provides a spreadsheet with budget breakdowns for everyone so that everyone knows what funds remain in the 102, vending and travel accounts.

Jenny came into a Department that was reeling from the departure of a long-term Office Manager and pulled apart by conflicts among faculty members.  In the relatively short time she has been with us, she has worked hard at learning University systems and process, and just as importantly, helped to mend a highly fractured Department.  I couldn’t imagine chairing the Department without her!”

The CSAC Awards & Recognition Committee submitted this announcement. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
