Student scholarship recipients had the chance to thank donors in-person at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh Foundation’s annual Scholarship Reception April 28 at the Culver Family Welcome Center.
The event brought together scholarship recipients, their families and the donors who make the awards possible. Students enjoyed a meaningful opportunity to meet and personally thank the special individuals who support their academic journeys. See event photos here.

UW-Oshkosh Alumni Relations Director Chris Gantner opened the program and introduced Chancellor Manohar Singh, who shared his appreciation for the students’ commitment to academic excellence. He expressed gratitude to donors for their continued investment in UWO and its mission.

Micki Dirks‑Luebbe, executive director of the UWO Foundation, introduced Al and Diana Hartman—longtime UWO employees and creators of multiple scholarships.
Al, who is Dean Emeritus of the College of Business, and Diana, a retired UWO human resources manager, have supported students for decades.
In his remarks, Al celebrated the accomplishments of the recipients, saying, “All the students here today have done and will continue to do incredible things. Parents, you should be proud of the child you have raised. Recipients, please remember when you are successful to support those coming behind you as you are supported now.”
Several student scholars also took the stage to share their gratitude.
Majeed Abbara, recipient of the Oshkosh 94 Leadership Award, reflected on the impact of donor generosity.
“We, students, thank you for the sacrifices you made for us, and we assure you that we will walk in your footsteps and uphold your legacy,” Abbara said. “This award to me is more than a dollar sign; it’s a badge of honor to be part of this beautiful history.”
Abbara and his donor, Dr. Sheila Knox, were able to connect during the event and discuss his aspirations as a junior majoring in Accounting and Finance.
The evening concluded with students and donors continuing to visit, exchange stories, and capture photos—celebrating not only scholarship support but the relationships and shared purpose that make the UWO community strong.
