Amy Ready, Center for Academic Resources, has been named the recipient of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh STAR Award for July 2011. Becky Beahm, Gena Frey and Christine Webb nominated her. Portions of the nomination letter follow:

“Amy continually goes above and beyond her basic responsibilities. And, she does it with a smile! She is always willing to drop whatever she is working on to help students. She takes the needs of the students that she helps and tries to match them with a tutor to make sure that they succeed in their classes.  Amy is always organized and is very conscientious about her students that work for her and the ones that need assistance in tutoring.

“Students come to Amy for advice and always lean on her for support in life matters, as well as academic ones. Christine Webb, Student Assistant (front desk), sums it up best, “I have known Amy since she started working at the University. She has always been here for me whether I need help with my academics or to get me through a tough day. It doesn’t matter if she is busy or not she will always drop everything and help anyone that needs it.”

“Amy is the backbone of the Center for Academic Resources. She does everything from maintaining the complex CAR budget to supporting our more than 150 student employees. This ranges from hiring the tutors, filling tutor requests and doing payroll for 150 plus student employees. Amy has also demonstrated her ability to take on more responsibility. While our Director has been away on a medical leave she has stepped up and taken on higher level responsibilities.

“Amy is not only an asset to the Center for Academic Resources, but also to the campus as a whole. Amy is also a part-time student here at UW Oshkosh. Her advisor regularly refers other non-traditional students to her to share her experiences and knowledge of university resources. Amy always does this with such enthusiasm.”

Winners of the STAR Award receive a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for one month and a gift from University Books & More. The award for exceptional performance is presented each month to a member of the classified staff who has worked at least six months at UW Oshkosh.

The CSAC Awards & Recognition Committee submitted this announcement. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
