Led by Dr. Mayara Amario, the team included three postdoctoral and doctoral researchers visiting UW-Oshkosh through a prestigious Fulbright scholarship.
Marcel Dijkstra, UWO associate professor of environmental engineering technology, said their mission was to study UWO’s innovative approach to hands-on engineering education. See photos from the visit.

A delegation from Universidad Federal do Rio De Janeiro, meets with UWO engineering/engineering tech faculty and students to learn more about hands-on engineering education.
Among 78 universities offering environmental engineering degrees, UWO was selected for its exceptional use of industry-scale pilot projects and equipment to teach applied problem-solving, an approach that stands in contrast to UFRJ’s traditional lecture-based curriculum.
Dijkstra said the visiting scholars were especially impressed by UWO’s integration of real-world testing into classroom experiences and future student exchanges are being explored.
“We look forward to building a long-term partnership that enriches both institutions and expands global learning opportunities,” Dijkstra said.
