Micki Benz, center, celebrates her STAR Award with her supervisor, Debbie Gray Patton, left, and Chancellor Andrew Leavitt.

Members of the UWO College of Business and Chancellor Andrew Leavitt, right, honor administrative assistant Micki Benz, holding award.

Micki Benz, administrative assistant in the Dean’s Office of the UW-Oshkosh College of Business, has earned a STAR Award for the month of March 2025.

Benz was nominated by her supervisor Debbie Gray Patton:

“Micki is deserving of the STAR Award for the exceptional support she has given to me and other unfamiliar staff in the College of Business. Since my arrival in the College of Business in late January 2024, we have had three additional fresh staff start in the Dean’s office or Academic Programs office, a total of four of eight staff are new in the last seven months. To say it has been a stressful time, would be a huge understatement.

“Micki has been kind, accepting, and supportive of all new staff.  At an overwhelming time to everyone, her sense of humor and knowledge of institutional history has been so helpful. Micki is always willing to share her perspective, support and willingness to try something new. At the beginning of the school year, we decided to have a ‘campus joy’ table in the Sage lobby to greet students the first two days of classes and give out College of Business swag prior to the re-branding. At a busy time, taking on a joyful project is above and beyond.

Micki Benz, right, is surprised with a UWO STAR Award for excellent work above and beyond her duties as administrative assistant.

“This summer, Micki was the only department assistant for the College of Business for two months after the promotion of the only other department assistant, and prior to the hiring of our new person. Although summer does not always have the same intensity of the school year, the College of Business has very important processes to complete, most importantly, student admission to the college. This is a process that requires many steps to complete. Micki had not done the process on her own before. I had little knowledge to help her with this, but she dug deep and got it done. Accomplishing things that may have been “normal” in the past, deserves celebration moving forward.”
