University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh biology students will study with advanced microscopes, thanks to a generous donation from the Kimberly-Clark Corporation.
Several members of the UWO biology faculty—Andrew Bosma, Lisa Dorn, Courtney Kurtz and Greg Potratz—traveled recently to Kimberly-Clark headquarters in Neenah, to accept the donated microscopes, including computers and software. Lyndsay Poeschl, an alumna of UWO Biology and current employee of Kimberly-Clark, led and helped drive the donation partnership.
Members of the department say they look forward to training students on the confocal and fluorescent microscopes through coursework and independent research projects.
Kurtz noted that faculty are already discussing ways to use the new equipment in the classroom and are very excited about the donation’s teaching-and-learning potential.
“UWO Biology is excited to accept another donation from Kimberly-Clark, a company that has generously donated advanced research equipment to us in the past,” Kurtz said. “These new microscopes will not only advance research at UWO but will provide opportunities for students to learn how to use advanced histology equipment for research and diagnostics. Our students will now have a chance to gain hands-on experience with confocal microscopy, which is used in research and diagnostic labs throughout the world.”
