The Jim VandeHei of 30 years ago never imagined he’d be his alma mater’s Commencement speaker 30 years into the future.

On May 18, there he was in Kolf Sports Center, front and center, sharing a few of his “no-B.S. secrets to success” with the hundreds of University of Wisconsin Oshkosh graduates, families and supporters who gathered to collect symbols of their degrees and mark a big moment in their personal and families’ histories.

VandeHei,’95, of Oshkosh, co-founder and CEO of Axios, delivered the keynote addresses at both 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 18 UWO Commencement ceremonies. His return to the university followed the recent release of his new book Just the Good Stuff, a reflection on leadership (subtitle: “No-B.S. Secrets to Success”).
