Greg Kleinheinz, associate professor of microbiology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, has been elected chair of the UW System Solid Waste Research Council.

During the one-year appointment, he will facilitate selection of research proposals, publicize programs, assist selection of student-research proposals and respond to queries regarding programs.

Kleinheinz has been a member of the council for nine years. He joined the faculty at UW Oshkosh in 1999 and serves as the director of UW Oshkosh’s Industrial and Environmental Microbiology Laboratory (EML).

The Solid Waste Research Program was established by the Wisconsin legislature in 1990 to offer monetary awards for faculty, staff and student research into alternative methods of solid waste disposal.
